CVNHP grants have helped dozens of communities preserve their heritage for future generations: Photo: Crandall Public Library
Since 2008 CVNHP has awarded nearly 200 grants that support projects by museums, historical societies, and other community partners to interpret and protect historic and recreation resources in the region. These funds have supported a variety of projects, from artifact restoration to internships. Many of the projects have produced media and other outreach materials. Several of these are highlighted in the Featured Grants section. A complete list of grants awarded by CVNHP is included below.

Smart Phones & Storytelling
The Ethan Allen Homestead in Burlington, Vermont developed a video that tells the story of Ethan Allen’s Green Mountain Boys taking the Fort at Crown Point and “liberating” 111 cannons that would be essential to the colonies’ efforts at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The video—available in French and English—was designed to be used on smartphones.

Franco-American Songbook
The Vermont Folklife Center cataloged the songbook collection of Vermont Franco-American sing/activist Martha Pellerin’s. The collections consists of nine manuscript songbooks that include the lyrics of 229 French songs from oral tradition. The VFC scanned the contents of the nine songbooks, translated all song texts into English, paired song texts with existing recordings, built a database with multiple searchable fields, and created an online portal for public access to the collection.

Queen City Radio Hour
As part of the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial celebrations Burlington City Arts in Vermont, produced a radio variety show with Tom Bodett as the host. The show featured several skits, including a tall-tale featuring Samuel de Champlain. The program included music from The Horse Flies, Anais Mitchell, and Quebec’s Lost Fingers.

Champlain 400 Vermont Public Radio
Vermont Public Radio broadcast live from the Champlain International Waterfront Festival in Burlington, Vermont. Host Jane Lindholm began the show with the announcement that it was airing live from the Festival and describe the Festival’s purpose. She will also interviewed David Hackett Fischer, the author of Champlain’s Dream, the definitive biography of Samuel de Champlain and took calls and questions from listeners and those in attendance at the Festival broadcast.
